Attaching baseboard to cinderblock
I am trying to install baseboard against a cinder block wall. I would have used liquid nails but the wall is painted with several coats and wallpapered on top of that. i don’t think the surface prep to get down to something solid is worth it. Can I get a concrete “finish” nail? Any other way to do it?

PL and cut nails should work nicely.

I drill a 5/16 hole in the block with a roto hammer, drive a 3/8 dowel into the hole. Lay the base down against the wall and mark the hole and dowel locations.
Apply PL premium or some other adhesive of choice and nail the base up with either with a gun nailer or hand nails.
Doesn't take many nails , just enough to pull it tight till the glue grabs and sets.
Great application for Tapcon screws.

I have been less than happy with the performance of Tapcons of late.
Dunno if it's me, or if they have made some changes along the way.

"I have been less than happy with the performance of Tapcons of late.Dunno if it's me, or if they have made some changes along the way."Same here, last time I used them to install some blocking in a fireplace I ended up using a poor man anker (tie wire folded up and pushed in hole followed by a wood screw) to fasten sheet metal in the opening. they seem to be getting hung up, about 2/3 the way in.
That, or the heads snap.

I had to glue 5 1/4" baseboard onto a concrete wall once. I used fast setting (not waterbase) baseboard glue and applied pressure with bar clamps and a 1x4 against the baseboard in some places; weights just leaning against the baseboard in other spots.
I've used hardened 15ga finish nails to shoot baseboard into steel studs. Has anyone tried those to shoot into cinder block? They wouldn't have to have much holding power to secure base long enough for glue to hold.
Crazy foam and spring boards to hold till set, 1/2 hour hour max.
