Anyone of us done this before. How do you attach a ledger board to an Insulated Concrete Form foundation wall. It will be 2×12 with 56″+- joists and have approximately six inches of concrete on top of it. The length of the ledgers is about eighteen feet. I did not draw or design this I just want ot know what you guys think. Not mentioned on structural plans.
thanks

Jim, I assume the ICF wall has already been pour? Generally, there would be a beam or ledger pocket bucked into the form at pour time. I'd check with the architect or foundation contractor. If it was on my house, I'd probably through bolt 1/2" threaded rod through the concrete after removing a section of the foam for the ledger then spray foam to seal the ledger and bolt heads as long as it met with the building inspector's requirements.
*I'm thinkin' a crane just won't work this time, jimbo.
*Jim , I put a 2x10 foam plank in my form and cut it out after the pour . I should have used a release agent. Then I used wedge anchors to hold the end cap (I did steel joist) in place.Should work for wood. The FoamulaR tech book shows a 2x leadger bolted to the outside of the foam with anchor bolts set in the pour.
*if it hasn't been poured.. cut out 6w x 8h windows in the forms @ 12" OC...set either one or two 1/2 j-bolts (depending on floor system span).. and then bolt PT ledger directly to the concrete"windows"....
*already been poured Super says just screw ledger to plastic in forms (that puts it outside the foam) and we'll wedge anchor it later. It makes me nervous to run the bolts through two inches of foam then into the concrete. Don's post gives me a little hope. Mike's idea sounds like the way to go had it not been poured already. Thanks fellasjimps Mr Blodgett I did move the two twelves closer to where I was working with the crane:^)
*Mike's idea is the way to go. At this point, I'd at least cut out "windows" as he said and place wood blocks there.
*Yeah, Mike's plan would have been the way to go. At this point, I'd at least cut out windows and place wood blocks there. Don't know where you're building but I'd be required to put tension straps in too, or in your case siesmic retrofits (with the big square plates). Good luck.
*"my idea" came straight out of a Polysteel ICF installation manual...probably the same kind of manual that your ICF mfr. has.. that the architect should have included details from..oh well, we tried......
*What about adding a lintel below already installed ledger. Cut out foam first and then attach with several wedge anchors. Next time do it right, with Mike's windows and bolts.jim
