We are building a post and beam. We have an ‘L’ shaped open second floor. I need to install about 40 feet of railing. I am looking for a good way to install the newell post so they are very solid.

To help you we could really use alot more info . What are you using for newels will they be surface mounted on the outside edge of the balcony or let into the subfloor ? what do you have to fasten to , a beam ,I Joist , or a 1 1/2" rim joist ? You might try and find an L.J. Smith stair parts catalogue , they have several peices of hardware for this . Or depending on the style a couple of counterbored lag bolts with face grain plugs work fine . Chuck

Thanks for you reply. I have an 18 foot run, ends at the outside wall, stress skin panel. I will bolt that newel from outside the house. my floor is 2 inch T&G brds, but I have an 8 X 10 beam under the floor along the run. I now have a copy of the L.J. Smith Cat. and believe I am on my way. Thanks.
