Putting in a new stairway to an attic room and finishing off this room.
This new room is in a recent addition to the house and will be a great space for a family room, 20×20.
The only gotcha is access to attic over the older section of the house. This is great storage area. The current attic stairs (way to steep and unusable) have to be removed to make room for the new stairway.
The access to the old attic is directly through where the sloped ceiling of the new stairway will go. I was thinking some sort of opening in the ceiling and a platform like a drawbridge that came down over the new stairs and allow you to walk into the old attic.
There isn’t any reasonable place to pull put in regular pulldown stair elsewhere in the house.
Has anyone seen this done, does anyone know of a kit that fits this requirement??
(I hate pulldowns as much as anyone, but the only other choice I can find is 3×3 crawl thru opening)
