I have a ranch style home that’s approx 80 x 27 with a 5 in 12 roof. Do I put a small gable exhaust fan (1500cfm) at either end, or a bigger one at one end? I live near Sacramento, CA where summer is long, dry and 90 to 100 degrees almost daily. Any feed back would be helpful…thanks! In case it matters, gables are on the north and south facing ends of the house.

Place the fan on the middle and add four vents in the corners of the attic.
Last I read, DOE report during energy crisis, was that attic exhaust fans seldom save enough money to repay the cost of the electricity used.
The best rated, in terms of ventilation and return on investment, was a simple, well designed and balance soffet and well rated in these terms.
Gable fans are a waste of time and money.
Ridge and soffit vents are preferable. That way you get a continuous. uniform flow of air along the underside of the roof sheathing.
Well, maybe.....IMHO, most of the passive ridge/soffit vent systems don't do much, & down here in hurricane land they don't allow ridge vents......
