There is a thread on this in the Construction Techniques category labeled 'Imitation Slate Roofs'. It is very similar to Majestic Skylines roofing. The only installation I have seen was a large mock-up of the Majestic next to slate roofing in a supply house. It was almost impossible tell the difference.
I'm thinking of using either the Authentic or the Majestic, but they are budget busters. Aside from that problem, my main concern is the color fading over time. Still checking on that question.

*I noticed a short blurb about it in TOH mag at the newsstand, so I looked into it. 84 Lumber carries it in my neck of the woods. Can't exactly remember the cost, but I do know for my project it came out to about $10K installed, as compared to $5400 for Certainteed Grand Manor. The Grand Manor I think is about $140/sq for material. The Authentic Roof must have been about $200-225/sq. Budget buster for me as well. Comes in bundles of 45 shingles I think. The stuff must be indestructible, you'd think. Novel idea on someone's part to find a use for all our junk tires. Wish it was me. Anyway, the Grand Manor are guaranteed for life, and have a nice thick profile, so I think I'll be happy with it. It's a helluva lot better then $23K for the steel roof!! (Talk about a budget buster....)Matt
*I put Monier Tile on my roof. Materials were less than $150/square (tile, battens, nails, 2 layers of 30# felt, hurricane clips, screws, lead flashing, yada, yada, yada). The stuff is heavy and the labor to install it would be right up there, but I think less than $300/square installed. Materials to upgrade the roof trusses and decking was less than $500. This Authentic Roof stuff sounds a bit rich for what it is (ground up tires?)
*Gordon, what is Monier Tile ? I used Lifetime concrete tile on my garage. It is about 950# / square
