I posted this in the HVAC area but didn’t get any hits.
I’m in the midst of a remodeling project and I’ve convinced the wife to get rid of the old “Darth Vader Hood” gas/wood fireplace in our living room. We went shopping for gas direct vent stoves and really like the Avalon “Tree of Life” model. Does anyone here have one of these or know what a fair price would be? I have reason to think my local dealer is on the high side based on what little pricing information is available on-line. It seems that buying cars is easier than buying these gas stoves! I’m all for a guy making a buck. I just don’t think he should make it all off me.
Any feedback on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric

Thanks for the response. I talked for a while with the store owner and he ended up knocking off an additional hundred dollars so I think I ended up okay. Not great, but as good as I was going to get without spending a few more weekends driving around burning time and gas.
Thanks,
Eric
We just saw the TOL (tree of Life) and my wife just melted. It was 2100 at the local dealer.
Yeah, it's a pretty sweet looking unit. The thing that really sold us was the three glass sides. The ability to see the fire from three different locations was a big plus. I got the brown porcelain enameled one with a blower, Simpson venting (one story) and installation for $3776. Like I said above, not bad, but I think there was a better deal out there. Just depends on how much time and money you want to spend finding it.
We're figuring on using it to take the chill off the house on those days where it just doesn't make sense to run the furnace. We've also got a conventional fireplace for those snowy days when nothing but a big pile of roaring oak will do!
Thanks,
Eric
