Conventional method to avoid crawl space moisture in New England has been to put poly under a rat slab and have screened vents, open in summer. A recent architect’s seminar says it is better to use rigid foam insulation under the rat slab and adhesived onto inside of concrete walls, and NO ventilation. The object is to insulate from moisture and temp changes and not allow the moisture in there at all. Any experience with both out there?

A lot of that dependson water/soil conditions. If ground watercan well up from under through the slab...
I was in one not long ago that I believe didn't get good perimeterdrain. Four foot crawl with no vents and foam on walls but not underfloor. Many wet spots and mold getting a start on the floor joists.
The basic rule for venting with any area of a house or section or the wholehouse, is "if water can get to it, it has to be allowed away to get away from it" So if you are goingf to eliminate the way out, you have to be 100% sure that it is impossible for it to get in.
