I am in the process of closing in an outside porch located in Rhode Island. I plan to use AZEK trim boards but would prefer not to use Box nails for installation.
Can I use a pneumatic finished nail gun?
Will I get into trouble?

Listeners write in about haunted pipes and building-science tomes, and they ask questions about roof venting and roof leaks.

There are a number of different philosophies regarding this subject, a search thru the archives will net you more than you want to read.
Personally, I use ss trim head screws on the flat trim, and finish gun the molded stuff using 15/18ga SS nails.

done it with 18 gague finish nails. 5 years and looking good!!
I use Azek all the time and fasten it with 15 & l8 gauge SS nails and brads Their glue works well also. And to date the best filler, I've found and worked with is the Crayola White crayon. Even found a co. that will sell the white in 1/4 inch sticks and in bulk. The nail holes become invisible.
You just made my day. I use this stuff all the time and filling the nail holes has always been a problem. I gotta go and raid the kid art supplies.
Thanks
It's pvc. Like vinyl siding, it moves a lot and over time those nails will not hold well. Use either screws or SS 8d rings. Azek expressly tells you not to use it unless its for the small trim pieces. Use a siding gun and flush nail them, no holes to fill
I usually use SS trim head screws with pvc trim, but have been known to gun nail the field as long as the ends are screwed and glued.
You want these for the 1X stock:
