You like those big ones, eh? I've had a few projects where we used those big Cats, see pics below. There are actually four of them in that room. :-)
........." You like those big ones, eh? "YES, Stuart, I DO, but only one was inside a building, all the others were out in the cold ...always in the winter ...even the SWGR is outside most times. These two bring my total to 23 what was the output on yours ?
If I recall correctly, this particular installation was four 1500kW units. We aren't designing very many of these big projects any more, but for several years my engineering firm was pretty involved in landfill gas projects - they'd park these generators on top of closed landfills and run them off the methane coming out of the ground.I still work with smaller gensets (say 50kW to 500kW) all the time, mainly for backup power at municipal water and wastewater treatment plants. They're still pretty large machines, but not nearly as impressive as those big old 3416 Cats.
I was always impressed with the time it took for those monsters to come up to speed ..... even at -20 FI did some cable testing at another job .... real exciting work ...and here is my partner on the smart end of the megger...while
