When using a cement backer board on the walls as a substrate for tiles in the bathroom, must the joints and seams of the backer board be taped and spackled? If so, what is the best way to accomplish this? Or is this even necessary?
Thanks as always.

Use fiber mesh tape to cover the joints, then trowel on a thin coat of Thin-set motar with 333 Superflex. All you need to do is fill the joints and get a thin coat on the tape. It isn't necessarey to finish the joints like drywall so 1 application is plenty. Allow the thin-set to set up before you install tile.
*If the seams are backed by a stud and your tiles are very thick, you might get away with not taping...The average (thin) wall tile will crack at any place where the backer can flex.
*Tape them. The only time I don't, is when the backer is going behind a tub surround. Jeff
