Does anyone have an opinion or story about the residual smell and/or taste of soldering flux in newly installed copper pipes? I have a customer who thinks something is “wrong” because the odor hasn’t dissipated in a couple of days. My plumber insists that it will go away, my customer wants it “fixed” ASAP or they’ll call in a new plumber. I love this job.
Thanks, Ken

Reply from 'not a plumber', just an observer. Worked once in a clinic that had just been remodelled. One sink ran consistently slimy water. Just as though there was still flux inside the lines. none of the other sinks did it. Can't remember if it was hot or cold water. But it was awful!! I quit before it was fixed. Knowing the docs there, it probably just had to wear away with time.
Wait for the HO to be gone and open all the taps and flush the toilet a half dozoen or so times. With enough flushing of the pipes the tast will dissipate. You can then add an extra charge for purification of the pipes. Your call.
over the weekend they ran the sink until the hot water was gone. Still claim to smell the smell! Whats even stranger, other pipes installed by the same plumber a week or so ago haven't done this. Why this sink and not the others? Do you think it could be the strainer?
that ain't nothng, just wait till thy operate the disposal, and find out that it makes a funny"click" when it 's almost done spinning, but it doesn't do it all the time, 90% of the time, and, oh yeah, the hood fan, it is not real strong, doesn't quite "suck", and the hum of the florescent lights, and oh, this dimmer feels kind of warm, not real hot but warmer than normal, and this thing doesn't work right, I know you didn't install it, but it discombodjulated while you were working here you must have done something to it.....
I'll trade some customers with you and we'll still have the same complaints..
Excellence is its own reward!
