A garage roof I recently worked on doesn’t shed water into the gutter. It was done the usual way – drip edge over the facia, ice and water shield over the drip edge, starter strip and shingles hanging a quarter inch over the drip edge. Water doesn’t run off the shingles though, it curls under and flows down over the drip edge and the facia. Is water stickier out here in Vermont or what?

cappillary action will do that more often than you think...
make sure the bottom edge of the drip edge has a decided kick to it and it is not actually touching the fascia..
you can also cut strips of flashing ( alum. ) and slip it under the drip edge and into the gutter..

A good point Mike, I'm a believer in somehow keeping that gutter under the drip. Sometimes you have to flash to it. Water just doesn't like to jump off the roof into the gutter.__________________________________________

they actually make an aluminum strip called an "apron" that hooks into the top back edge of aluminum gutter... two kinds.. one that slips under the drip edge.. and one thta is an integral drip edge and apron..

CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE DRIP EDGE WAS'NT MASHED TO TIGHTLY AT THE FASCIA BOARD. IF THE DRIP EDGE IS PUSHED IN TO TIGHT, IT CREATES A CURL AT THE FASCIA AND THE FIRST COURSE OF SHINGLES TURN SLIGHTLY UP AND CAN SLOW WATER RUNOFF AT THE DRIP LINE, MORE COMMON ON LOW PITCHED ROOFS. I'VE SEEN WATER ACTUALLY PUDDLE AT THE DRIP LINE BECAUSE THE DRIP EDGE WAS PUSHED INTO THE FASCIA TO TIGHT.
