Just the other day I purchased the Baldwin set with the smart key ability. I installed all single keyed cylinders last night, no problem. Tonight when I returned from work it was time to tackle the double keyed cylinder on the front and back door.
Smart key worked as advertised, exterior only, cannot get interior to work….actually read the directions (I know) and they are of little help.
Anyone in this community have a suggestion? I’m all ears!!!
Best Regards

I've used the Smart key system about 5 times now and love it. But, on one lock I had the same problem you're having. I fiddled with it for about an hour and was on the point of having to take it back when suddenly it worked. No clue why. next time I'll take it back for an exchange.
Yep, pretty close to the exchange route myself. Were it not an exterior door, no worries. For the time being the house is secure.
FWIW, I've checked the website - not much help as it only appears to deal with one way keyed systems. BTW, those worked well and as advertised. I'll fiddle with it tomorrow.
Thanks for the input!
Double cylinder or single cylinder cannot make any difference, The smart key does not know where it is, it just enables the cylinder it is inserted in to be re-keyed.
You must have an out-of-box failure that will have to be returned.
IMHO Baldwin has become garbage, all product is made in China. I try to avoid it when dealing with clients.
As an update. The issue apparently comes down to "####" for product usage documentation. In all of the instructions that came with the hardware (website as well), it only addressed one way keyed combinations.
Upon my return the next afternoon, I chose to insert the 'smart tool' into both sides of the double cylinder. Having reset to the original key I was unconcerned. FWIW, to make a long, painful story short, insert the smart key in both sides and 're-key'. Worked like a champ for me.

Well duh, of course you have to key both sides.
Baldwin has a Smart Key system now?
I was sold on Kwikset until one cylinder that I'd re keyed somehow "unkeyed" itself, and now none of the keys I have will work.
Double cylinder Kwikset Smart key works just the same as a single, just have to do the procedure to each. You may have a defective one on your hands. Did you call their "help" line?
