I would like to install bamboo flooring in the bedrooms of my home. Has anyone used the product from (www.hawabamboo.com) Hawa bamboo flooring ? The application will be at grade glue down. I understand that Timber Grass makes an excellent product, but it does not seem to be available in my local market and I would be required to order it through an installer.
Thanks — Joe

Joe,
Check out Lumber Liquidators (http://www.lumberliquidators.com/bamboo.html ) for their bamboo products online. Visited one of their locations here locally and found prices were good - $4.25 per sq. ft. diy. Samples showed a 3/8 bamboo glued to the bottom board forming a 4 inch plank. Tongue in groove if I remember right.
Also saw a new "snap together" bamboo flooring at Contract Furnishings(http://www.cfmfloors.com/locations/index.html)
Another website...( http://www.teragren.com/teragren.asp ) for bamboo flooring, veneers..
Joe,
I sell & install the Hawa Bamboo flooring you are referring to.
I have installed many different types of Bamboo from different manufacturers & Hawa is a good choice.
In honesty, I have not found it to be any harder than Oak flooring as far as durability or dent resistance. But, common sense precautions taken after the installation should help prevent scratches, dents or other damage. The wear layer is similar to other wood floors on the market so it should be fine depending on the traffic in your house.
I have found that acclimation of bamboo is very important to a successful installation as well as the correct urethane glue for the installation.
Follow the manufacturers recommendations for adhesive but I have found both Bostik' Best & Dri-Tac's Urethane adhesives to be exceptional for that product. Stay away from any adhesive that is not urethane based as the water in the adhesive could adversely affect the floor.
While I have not dealt with Timber Grass products, I find it hard to believe that only installers can purchase & sell that product. If that is the product you want then I would suggest continuing your search on the internet.

Did you call TimberGrass/Teragren directly?
I order straight from their Seattle office, and I live in CT. I pay shipping either from Seattle of Cincinnatti.
There is even a distributor/retailer in town, and he carries it because the bamboo he was originally carrying was garbage. I geve him TimberGrass samples and he was hooked.
Yes, I did call TimberGrass/Teragren directly. They said I need to be an installer or business with a license number to order from them directly. They would not even give me a sq. ft. price on the 6" x 6' product.
Any tips on how I could place an order with them directly would be appreciated.
Thanks -- Joe
They seem to be making life a little more complicated ever since they changed from "TimberGrass" to "Teragren".
Too bad.
