I am installing 1/2″ solid bamboo (Lumber Liquidators) next week and have read the specs which suggest various staples or cleats of various gauges. However, I have been told to avoid the larger gauge fasteners as they will split the tongue since the wood is so hard. My rental store carries the Bostich and Powernail models but I would like to hear opinions on which nailer to use, which fasteners and what length. Also, any other advice for iinstalling this type of flooring,
thanks

tim,
I'd go out to the shop and read the length of staple I use but let's just take a guess-2-1/4". It does you no good to blow through the subfloor so figure accordingly. I have the box of staples for mainly 3/4 flooring. I'm thinking (but verify) you can get away with 2" easy.
Used in the air assist gun.
The tips I can give is turn your air down to start (or test would probably be better on a sacrificial pc.) to maybe 75. Gradually take it up until you're satisfied with the drive. More and it'll for sure split it. Stay back from a ends maybe 3-4 inches.
Make sure your foot on the gun is for that thickness of flooring , or pad out the foot to make it so. Most rentals are set up for 3/4. I have used laminate samples if I don't have the proper pad. About the same size as the bostich foot. A little silver tape will work fine.
Don't allow anyone to roll the frig over that floor. Use a pc of 1/8" masonite as a pad under it.
It may be "hard" but the wheels can dent the flooring.
Best of luck.
edit: Are you sure it's 1/2"? Most of the bamboo I've put down has been 5/8's. It'll make a difference on the shoe.
