help! I’m remodeling a house for the first time and need some advice. I’m interested in putting bamboo flooring in one of the bathrooms, but I’m not quite sure if it is a good idea. I was told by a friend that you’re never supposed to put wood floors in a bathroom – is this true? Has any one had any experience with this — good or bad? I’d love some feedback – Thank You!

I removed hideous linoleum tile in bathroom and kitchen. Voila, discovered redoak in the bath and maple in the kitchen.
You can have wood floors in both of those locations but you need to be very careful how you treat them. The assorted wood flooring threads on the Breaktime forum debate treatment all the time. Waterlox is one product that has been mentioned and 3 coats. You may wish to go spelunking over there to get a better idea of what to do in your situation.
It IS possible! To Rhinocoat a windowbox is approx 50-75USD for a box 7-8 inches deep by 7 inches wide by 7-8ft long. Life is good.
I've used bamboo all over my house. I use it in a bathroom, too, but with limits. I wouldn't use it in a wet area, be/c standing water will affect the bamboo and the finish (I use Waterlox). Here's an alternative. I wanted bamboo for consistency, and also had an expensive granite I wanted to use, but in limited quantities. So I used bamboo for the non-wet areas and tile for a 3'x6' area in front of the sink, in front of the tub, around the toilet. Now, I had some room to work with so that the areas didn't touch and the bamboo showed in large areas. I realize that in a smaller room that'd be a tougher solution.
