Got some really old hand chopped worm holed barn beams for my mantle and carrier posts. I want them to stay natural looking minus the bugs. Anybody know what to use to kill off the bugs that won’t look like varnish etc.?

2cents for what it's worth...
Iffin I had it to do over again I'd put a bug killin' borax solution on it.
I used mineral spirits before and it worked in that years later there are still no insects present but there are definite better proven solutions available.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. A bird sings because it has a song.
Don't know about the bugs, but I like to prep those kinda' boards for furniture with a firm hand and a brass "suede" type brush, and lots of vacuuming - really accents the grain. Then I usually use WB poly to finish.

there are many log home products such as permachink that will eliminate and prevent bugs with no residual effect look at thier web site.

I've built some cabinet doors out of old beams and I put the wood inside a large bag and with (and heres the catch, dont remember the product) a chemical that killed powder post beatles, termites, etc, etc...... sealed the bag and let the fog do the work.
I dont remeber the chemical but I would guess you could check with a bug man and get a good recomendation. Also you might post this over in Knots, someone there is sure to know.

If you don't see any active sites, i.e., fresh saw dust or droppings, the bugs are probably dormant, or dead, & not a concern if you're going to put it in your house or somewhere else the relative humidity is controlled. Powder post beetles are only active in wood that is above a certain percent moisture content. (I didn't quote a number on that because I've seen several different ones in print.)
One place you can get to online writeups and descriptions, & probably call for professional advice is:
