Basement Bulkhead Doors Need Repair Or Replacement
The BILCO brand metal bulkhead doors leading from my basement are 30+ years old and have some serious rust in spots, although no through rust. I’m thinking just replace the entire thing instead of replacing parts. The Header is in the worst shape and I was considering just doing this part. But, then again. Are there other manufacturers besides BILCO that manufacture metal bulkheads? I would prefer metal to wood or other material.
Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations.
BILCO vs Gordon?

I have the same problem with Bilco. I scraped, sanded, primed and painted with oil based rustoleum and got about two years out of the paint job before the rust starts showing through again.
There has to be a decent fiberglass product out there?
The comments I saw concerning the benefit of metal over other materials is that metal is less susceptible to damage.....falling tree limbs, etc.
BILCO advertises that they can powder coat their metal doors....eliminates initial painting and they demos showed it as pretty tough.
Ever heard of Gordon brand bulkhead doors?
One thing that caught my attention for the replacement parts for my current door model was that doors were not on the replacement parts list. Have to ask BILCO what this is about as my doors do have some rust.
But, a new door that lasts 30 years will last longer than I will.
