any reason other than tastefulness that I can’t use vinyl soffit panels for my wrecked room ceiling? Cost seems about a trade off with drywall when I consider time and labor.

Hell, sounds good to me, but then again I'm into that "hillbilly deluxe" look. :-)

*double wide Dave- double wide...mites-be could take her on the road- parade of homes and all that
*Actually my dad did our "rec room" (when I was a kid) with aluminum soffit on the ceiling and it looked/looks quite nice.Pete
*well it certainly struck me like a light coming on- meets everything I need- no fuss no mess- bing bang boom it is done.the die is cast me thinks...
*Doug,The only vinyl I like is the beaded ceiling. Check here http://www.certainteed.com/consumer/siding/html/s_pr019.htmKK
*yeahyeah- that's the idea.the bedroms and bathroom are already drywall- a beaded or raised vinyl would get me to the promised land and look pretty good-I think it is a go...thanks
*Run crown or cove instead of crappy J and break at a fake beam instead of the crappy H. Ran 200 squares of blue on porch ceiling that looked great.
*Perfect! what I had in mind -and as a fortunate circumstance I have that crown in my garage. I will post a shot when it is done...
*Why stop there? Put some dutch lap on the walls, never need paint and it won't fade due to ultraviolet. Kids can bang into it, no problem, and it won't expand and contract as much since it won't be in the extreme temps, mount blocks around outlets. I think we are on to something here...it could catch on. I'd stick to the vinyl though, I think aluminum would get dented to easy from pool cues, and kids throwing stuff. We could market it as a weekend basement remodel. We fur the walls, staple up fanfold for insulation, and tyvek to keep the water in or out(depends on how you look at it)....man this is a really good idea........gotta run.....brain may explode due to recent influx of ideas....need beer to cool it off.
*can't see it from your house Keith.you want to jump in the truck and come over and do a proper job of drywall come on down- elsewise-my house and I got loads of other sh!t to do and that fuggin ceiling will be there later...capice?
*keith- sorry I was terse.I asked if there was something prohibitive about vinyl indoors
*Doug I'm serious here. There are many people, art types, that want an alternative look and feel to things. Anything to be different. Personally, I think it's leftovers from some acid trip, but if they want it, I'll do it. If we take this a bit farther, I can see it in a basement perfectly. Put in a few mirrors as windows, made from old sashes with mirrors instead of glass, put shutters beside them. Wall lights are regular outdoor fixtures, put green indoor/outdoor carpet down, and use lawn furniture/patio furniture. I'm sure there are many possibilities here. People would want it just as a conversation thing. Guys would love, kicked back in a lawn chair with a beer, watching the bigscreen. Build the bigscreen in the corner, on a platform that looks like a treated deck. It could all be done cheaper and faster than anything I've ever done in a basement. And with the added bonus of, when you get sick of it, it disassembles cheaper and faster to.
