While working on my daughter’s new (to her) house in Western Massachusetts, we discovered that the walls in the children’s playroom, which is mostly below grade, are not insulated. The walls were panneled and have studs. We want to insulate the room before sheetrocking to hopefully make it warmer in the winterfor the kids. There does not appear to be any moisture problems in the walls. Would foam batts and a vapor barrier be appropriate for this room? Any help would be much appreciated.

Nothing beats good old fiberglass. It's stood the test of time.
Just kidding, everyone. Anyways, I'm not really qualified to comment, so consider this a bump. . . Although I can say that people probably tell you to:
1. Spray foam
2. Install foam boards, foamed in place.

Foam is great for basements. Try to find Andy Engel's article on refinishing basements in FHB.
This product looks interesting, but I haven't tried it.
