I am remodeling my basement. The foundation walls are 8″ CMU below grade and brick and block above grade. The old walls were un insulated with drywall on furring strips. To allow for added electric I am padding out the walls with 2×4 studs. Any suggestions for vapor barrier and insulation?
Thanks

Where are you located?
Who's doing the insulation and other work?
How much do you want to spend?
Is your intent to make the basement habitable?

I am near Washington DC in Maryland and plan on doing the work myself. The wall in question is partially below grad, about 3'. The room will be used as a family room. Thanks for your response.Blaine
Check out the article in FHB 169, which you can get on line at the main site. Also, search this site. This topic is pretty common. Finally, go to http://www.buildingscience.com.Andy

Is it in the freebie section now or do you mean to buy it from the archives, which by the way are now available with a direct button below the forum mast head. Also I am reposting the building science link. http://www.buildingscience.comIt did not post correctly. I think because of the period at the end.
I don't know if it's free or not. It's certainly free at your library.
As the author, I'd say it's worth whatever they're asking. <G>Andy

When We do a basement we use metal studs to frame the walls. As far as insulation
We prefer to use a closed cell spray foam as this should stop any mosture. The cost
will be more but well worth it you probably can find a insulation contractor in your area that does this.
Possibly think about using a waterproofer on the concrete block before you start framing. I used a kilz product and was real happy. It actually took some of the musty smell out of the basement. It is sort of a pain to work with but I put on two coats and I think it paid for itself.
