I am planning on installing MDF beadboard wainscotting on my basement walls. The basement is dry,we have applied 2 coats of masonry sealer to the foundation.
Would OSB be a suitable backer for the wainscotting?

The recipe for linoleum hasn't changed much in nearly 170 years, yet it's still one of the greenest floors money can buy.

The MDF is true beadboard....or panels?
For true beadboard I use a plywood backer....not sure how good a bite the nails will get in OSB. I'd add construction adhesive to the mix.
For panels, I run horizontal firring strips.

No. Dry basement or not it will rot. Sorry, for the rhyme but that's how I remember it.
Rot = mold. and you do not want that. Better if you use the new paperless water resistant sheet-rock.
Best to you and yours, Chris.
Some say I know too much.
How will it rot in a dry basement?

Summer humidity gets trapped in the wall. Best to you and yours, Chris.

I'm assuming.....I know, bad idea....that if he is finishing the inside of the wall with wainscotting, it is for a living space.....thus...the walls will be insulated and the room air conditioned.
If this is in fact the case, and done properly, I would not fear rotting of the OSB.

<<<Summer humidity gets trapped in the wall. >>>
you better rethink that one.
if humid air can get in the wall it can get out too.
