Dear members,
I have a 60’s home that has a poured foundation with H & R steel tilt-in windows. The frames were placed in the pour and are locked in the concrete.
The windows are rusting and I would rather replace them than rehab them. Has anyone done this?
How difficult is it to remove the frames from the concrete. Thank you Fernly.

Fernly,
remove the window from the frame. With a recip saw cut all the way through the bottom of the frame. Using a pry bar, pry up each half and the sides will start to follow. Continue prying the sides into the center of the opening. You will find that it will eventually all come out.
if your steel frame is in the middle of the foundation and not wraped around the foundation... i would not bother with removing the frame. you will un doubtedly put some wood blocking aroound the opening to anchor the new window!! right? the frame does not sticko ut that far,,,, leave it alone. size the new window to fit between the "steel" frame anchor it and move on to the next one.
