We are putting up a large bath mirror over a vanity, about 60″ high by 66″ long. There are two boxes for light fixtures as well. My glass supplier thinks my DIY skills are plenty good to do this. He suggests we glue it up with mastic. Use some areas of mirror tape as well to hold the mirror while the mastic cures.
First question: We have no backsplash and will sit this on the counter in a j channel. Aesthetically, I can’t decide if I should use J channel on top to match. The channel on the bottom is to keep and pooled water from going underneath….
Second question: The wall is a little shy of flat. How much wiggle room on this? Obiously I don’t want one end flush and the other way off. Just get a big long straightedge to check this?
The mirror is 300 bucks so I could break 3 of them and be par for what labor would cost. On the other hand, the idea of being cut to confetti is not appealing even with paid up insurance! Should I give it a go?

Use a mirror mount top j-channel. The screw holes are slotted. You get it in the right place, then set thje mirror, slide the channel up enough to put the top of the mirror against the wall, the let it slide back down. Then the top is secured against the wall, and the bottom is trapped in the channel so it can't kick out.
You need to rent or borrow some glass suction cups. That mitrror will be big and heavy, and if it slipd it can do major damage. At the least there will be a million sharp shards of glass to clean up.
