Hi all y’all,
I remember reading about some highly recommended bathroom vent fans. Panasonic, I think. I searched the archives but didn’t come up with a supplier. Anyone know of an online or mailorder supplier with good prices?
Also, I’d like the fan to be operated automatically by humidity-sensor. Is this a good idea? I just don’t like the tick-tick-ticking of those timer switches. The con of this would be that odors wouldn’t trigger the fan on. Manual override?
Where does the humidity sensor get located and where can I get one?
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Jimmy: Yes, I think humistats are an excellent way to control a bathroom fan. It doesn't have to be the only controller. A manual switch, a low-voltage microswitch on the toilet seat, an annoying clicking timer, or a timer built into the light switch could be used in addition. Just run power to the fan from both controllers and if either controller wants it, the fan will run.
Graingers list 8 humidistats from $26 to $131. Some are for humidifiers, some for duhumidifiers (your application), and some are for either. One includes a thermostat in the same unit. They are by Honeywell, Autoflo and Columbus Electric. I'd mount it at thermostat height halfway across the room from the fan. So it sees average room air, not the air closest or fartherest from the fan.
Now if someone would invent a Stinkostat for turning on the fan after other bathroom activities. . .
