Bathroom addition — OK to bury no-hub coupling below slab???
Could not find an answer to this one in the archives …
I’m adding a closet bathroom to my 1950’s SoCal home built on a slab. I cut through the foundation and exposed the original 3″ CI sewer line. I intend to cout out a section and splice in a “T” to accomodate the toilet. I plan to use ABS for DWV. Question: what is the proper way to connect the ABS to CI and then close the opening? Is it OK to bury a no-hub coupling?
Thanks in advance for the help!

You should use a "Fernco" or
You should use a "Fernco" or similar brand of neoprene coupling, not a no-hub coupling that is designed for joining cast iron to cast iron. CI is smaller than ABS, and the Fernco coupling is large enough for the ABS, and you then install a thin neoprene bushing to fill in for the CI side. And they are OK to bury.
You will need two of them to splice in an ABS wye (not a tee, by the way) into which you will have glued a short section of ABS pipe in each end.
I thought "Fernco" was a no hub coupling?
