bathroom concrete sink and counter
hello…
good friend just did concrete counter slabs for kitchen, 1 1/2″ thick w/mesh. looks great.
i want to do a concrete counter and sink as one piece, with a 4″ front lip, with holes in the front lip for draping towels through. counter would be about 18″ deep by 4′ long, sink would be about 12″ deep by 24″ wide, rectangular, maybe 5-6″ sink depth, with faucet and handle mounted in wall above.
i am wondering whether to form it and pour it all as one pour, or do the slab first, project the mesh a bit, then form and pour the lip and sink bottom after.
any suggestions?

If you do it in two pours, you're going to have a cold joint in the concrete.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Rather than do it in two pours and ending up with a cold joint, pour it separately and design some sort of fastener. It could be as simple as holes for bolt and nut. Make it into a some kind of industrial-looking feature. I'm looking at pretty much the same thing too, but I probably will figure out a way to use a glass bowl or something rather than building in an integrated concrete bowl.
Do it in 2 pours.
Pour 1: Slab countertop. Have a groove/ indentation on the underside of the slab to accept the sink walls.
Pour 2: Sink pour. Not as easy as you might think. If it doesn't come out well on the first try you can do it over without making the countertop again. This also allows you better success in having a lip feature with the CT as it overhangs the sink.

I would try a two pour using bolts embedded in first pour so you could bolt the sink to the counter.

I undermounted my bathroom sink to the counter with 2 part epoxy. That was about 6 months ago and everythings fine. My counter is about 2" thick and has rebar.
The thing I'm wondering is what you'd make the sink mould out of. It would have to come apart pretty easy while ideally be re-usable. Also, a water reducer or plasticizer (similar??) would be necessary to aid the flow and minimize holes.
