I would like to install the most powerful bathroom fan that I can, without affecting the furnace and the venting of carbon monoxide. I noticed that I had some evidence of excessive moisture in the house when I observed a black substance dripping down the vinyl siding of my house (on the exterior). The black substance leached out of the black insulation board. I just discovered that the builder of my house simply extended the bathroom exhaust hose up to a roof vent and stapled it to the roof truss. There was a great deal of slack in this hose, and the moisture built up inside it and froze solid. There must have been about a quart of ice inside the hose! There is still a lot of moisture up in the attic. I want to use the strongest fan that I can so that I can be assured that this will never happen again.
I would greatly appreciate any comments. Thank you.

Steven, the power of the fan may be ok. You need to vent it outta the house, not just to a roof vent with hopes it'll go out. Go take a look at bath vent in the search and you'll find many ideas on running the piping to the exterior. It's not as easy as throwing the hose in the attic, which is why many bogus bldrs do it and hope you'll never see it. Another wrong way would be to lay it over to the vented soffit. Might not freeze up, but the moist air will come right back in. Remember, you are venting warm moist air which condenses when entering the cold attic area. There really should be a condensate drain on the damn things. Best of luck.
