We are renovating and a bath is being gutted and new drywall, tile, and fixtures are being installed.
There is a toilet adjacent to the tub (like you’d find in almost any split ranch house). I am looking for options other than a tub. I saw a fiberglass shower that has the same footprint as a tub (with molded seats), but it looks kind of cheesy. Since there isn’t space to bump out the tub to make a full shower, what other options are there? I know I can put in just a pan and have the sides tiled…any other ideas? Also, can a glass door be put in to the side of the toilet so one door is fixed and the other rotates?
One last question….I was in a mega house recently and saw the bathrooms had beadboard wainscoting around the room (painted semi-gloss). I thought this is obviously cheaper than tile and nicer than just drywall…anyone done this? Opinions?
Thanks!

I haven't done the wainscoting, but there are a few watch-outs I can anticipate. The material should be moisture resistant or at least sealed on both the back and the front. When painting, pay attention to sanding nicely between coats. If you leave the surface rough, when you clean the nibs will snag dust and hair from the sponge and be difficult to wipe clean.
One more thing. I've used Zinsser Mildew Proof Bathroom Paint many times and can highly recommend it for all the painted surfaces in the bathroom.
