We left a battery-operated radio on overnight. In the morning, one of the batteries had leaked acid onto my brand new coffee table. (Battery expiration date 03/09) It ate through the top finish. Duracell has said they will pay to have the table refinished, however, while waiting, the acid-spot that used to be black (3 inches by 1 inch) has turned white and is getting soft. Today is the fifth day since it happened. What can I do to slow the process of the acid working on the table?
It’ll be awhile before I can get an estimate to get the work done…I live in an area of Florida where we have no electric and another storm may be coming.
Thank You

Apply baking soda to nuetralize the acid
What style of battery is it?
There is a good change that it is alkiline and not acid.
In either case just wash it off several times.
