I’m installing a 9′ Pella Pro-Line 30deg bay window under a soffit this week. The bottom of my rough opening is at about 14′ elevation.
I was hoping to raise to bay into position using the steel cables that are included with the window. Is this advisable or should I just rent a damn lift and pick the unit up from the bottom?? I’m worried that I might bend the unit if I try and lift it with the cable.
Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks,

*Farrell,This has worked for me in a similar situation.Three pumpjacks, three experienced men, 24" wide kicker. Pump up slow and easy. Have everything ready to go, and extra hands inside are helpful.

Don't lift the unit with the cables under any circumstance...they're only meant to stabilize the unit after installation.
We've done alot of these units and the best proceedure is to remove as much glass from the unit as possible to lighten it up. Even most fixed sashes can be removed. Not framilier with Pella's construction, but your supplier could be of some assistance there. You will be amazed at how much more manageable the unit is without the glass.
Prepare the opening, install just the jamb, making sure it is plumb and level. Install the cables and draw them up only until the slop is out of them. Re-install the glass and then use the cables to adjust for the added weight and to make sure the operaters operate properly.
Even a 9' unit can be lifted into position rather easily using this method. My only word of caution is to make sure you have enough hands to handle the jamb. They have a tendency to tip easily due to their irregular shape.
Good Luck with the installation.
