hey yall – we need to insulate a below grade block foundation ( on the dirt side), and I just read that polyiso board was not for moist applications – so, what is? the blue foam board ? anything better ?
ok, now I checked the archives -sounds like expanded polystyrene,( or was it extruded?) , blue/pink board, is the only way to go…right ?

You want the blue / pink extruded. Expanded is the white board.
Tell the building supply you want below grade insulation, there are different grades of blue / pink.
There is high density expanded foam avalible for use below grade. Usualy at a lower cost than the extruded foams.
The white stuff at the box stores and lumberyards is not acceptable.
Check out R-control's website.

I actually knew that. It's available through commercial suppliers up here so I assumed that it would not be available from HD etc. and assumed this would be where he was buying.
EPS is also used for road fill and floating docks in the higher density.
we used to use pink & blue
now all we use is white ... EPS with borates ( Performguard )
you can get it in almost any density you want
unprotected like in walls we use 1 lb/cf
under slabs we use 2 lb/cf
There used to be "fiberglass" insulation that was for outside against foundation. But I have never seen any and don't know what it looks like.
thanks razz for the bump....
thanks all for the input - the borate stuff sounds good, as the client is worried about making carpenter ant homes....
now I'll see if I get the standard "do what now?" at the local yards...
