I use high density 3/4" closed cell polyurethane sheet on top of 6" thick concrete pad. Have never even considered using the 'store-bought' plistic ones.
Have also put a 4T packaged unit on 4 sonotube piers with 6" square, 1" thick solid rubber pads which worked well.
