A year of so ago I replaced a Nutone heat/vent/light with a new one identical to the old. It was always noisy despite being marketed as a quiet fan, and finally stopped working at all. I need to replace it. Would prefer to get teh best I can afford.
Any recommendations as to the ones to get and the ones to avoid?

From what I've heard here in BT, Fantech or Panasonic are the way to go.
I'll never buy Broan or Nutone again. Wish I had have thought of that before I drywalled around five Broan fans in my own house. Dang. Cheap bronze bushings that dry out and seize in short order. Regular dissasembly to clean and lube. Then you need to buy an entire replacement assembly every few years. Penny wise and Pound foolish.
It's analogous to Ryobi. They make tools. Doesn't mean you should buy them.

I've had good luck using the Panasonic line of fans. My only complaint-the style of some of the trims-which they have now changed.
Take a look.
Fantech, I've used their remote fans and am satisfied with their operation. VERY quiet when you get them out of the room envelope.
Note that the depth of the housing has a lot to do with noise levels. Often a higher capacity unit is quieter, because of the increased dept.
Thanks to all -- pana it is
Thanks to everyone for responding. I have installed panasonic in the lastand had great satisfaction with the product. However, times change and so do manufacturers, so i wanted to be sure they are still in high regard.
My standard fan is a fantec because clients always love how incredibly quiet they are and the small vent opening is unobtrusive.
A big +1 for Panasonic.
I would love Fantech, but too expensive for my projects. I do spend the extra cash for Panasonic on every remodel for my rental units. They are quiet and run for a long while. I have had very good success with ignoring the rules for sizing the fan - I often run a lot smaller fan than they recomend. The models I use have an unuisual 4 prong flourescent that I have to keep in stock as I can't find it locally.
