Which would be best interior wall/ ceiling finish for an unheated cottage in Ontario Canada- want smooth painted finish, v-groove 6″ wide beadboard for walls and ceilings….
1. Finger jointed primed 1×6 pine (about $2.20/sf material cost)
2. MDF sheets- www.Beadboard.com (about $2.00/sf material cost) The distributor has raised concerns over moisture conditions due to unheated conditions. Their moisture resistant versions are very expensive (about $4.00/sf)
3. Azek beadboard planks (cost unknown)
4. Azek 5/8″ sheets with field fabricated grooves (cost unknown)
Total job will require about 10,000 sf, so I don’t want to choose wrong.

I'm pretty sure any Azek product will run you way more $$ than the moisture resistant mdf....
They have plywood products that are maybe $.85 a sq ft. US$ that I think look pretty good. Only limitation is the 8' length which would need to be dealt with on the ceiling. Maybe that isn't the look you are looking for...
T&G Azek planks are a pleasure to work with - spendy, though. I like that the grooves don't open and close with the seasons.

I love Azek for exterior work. I'm not sure if you'd want to use in for interior ceilings, though. It's PVC, so there may be a fire code issue.

I looked at Azek sheets about a year ago.
$140 per 4X8 sheet.
That's what, about $4.38 sq ft, not including waste?
One thing to watch for with beadboard is how prominent the bead detail is. The GP yellow pine sheet goods I looked at have a very shallow detail. I suspect when painted it would nearly vanish.
I just bought some beadboard plywood from alumber yard. The stuff at HD & Lowes was advertised as 1/4" and had shallow close grooves. The stuff I bought was sold as 3/8" and has fairly deep grooves slightly farther apart. I think I paid about $38 for a 4x8 sheet. The grooves are sort of a double-v ... the bottom of the groove is not flat.

Are you sure it was Ply-bead at HD and Lowes? They have lots of paneling like you describe but usually also have real Ply-bead (3/8) in the ply section.

I am surprised he was paying $2.20 (even CDN) for 1x6. I put a mile of it in my ceiling. We whitewashed it with Cabot interior stain base and love it. I have posted pix before and if OP is interested I will hunt up the pix and stain #.
