Hi, again
I’m about ready to cut my “triangle” bracing 2×4’s to mount my canoe on the back of the house.
I have a couple of heavy metal “L” braces about 4″ long, and am wondering if they should be screwed on “underneath”, or “above” the horizontal which will support the canoe. It is 16′ long, 54#, and I’ll be supporting it 4′ in from each end. This probably sounds silly, since the diagonal brace underneath might be enough, but maybe not…….. Also, it will make a difference how long I cut the wall attached support, if I need to make room for the metal brace above. This will be attached with “lag bolts” as advised by my builder months ago, but not demonstrated…… I would like to know I’ve got the best support in the most logical manner, (John was the logical one……I was the dreaming/scheming one……and, he’s gone…….. )
Thanks for any quick advice. This certainly isn’t anything to spend a lot of your valuable time on.

While your description of what you want to do is good, could you post a sketch of the brackets and a picture of where you want to mount the brackets?
Thanks

Thanks. This is the plan......... I have 5" x 3/4" lag bolts to go through 2x4 flat against the batten, hardi plank siding, into the studs. I will drill pilot holes for everything - the 3' horizontal board and diagonal. The 2x4 against the house is 4' long, the horizontal on top 3' long.
54# ?
You can hang that on anything. Picture hooks, nails, duct tape......
;0)
Very clever. ;-)
Hi there, I would skip any "L" brackets in your situation, especially something that tiny. Two wood framed brackets lagged to the house should be fine. Timberlock screws instead of lags are more user friendly if you have an impact driver. I did a quick sketch of something similar I have built for kayaks, ladders etc.

Hmmmmm. This looks like what I had planned, but I'm wondering about the extra little block at the end - probably a great idea to make sure it doesn't slip when up there. I'll take it to heart. Thanks!
