Best Builders/Contractors Table Saw

I am unable to get to my old FHB issues so see you have to subscribe to the on-line service to view old issues….
So guys my question is I have a need for a small table saw on wheels.
The Bosch 4000 has caught my eye, Ridgid has a nice unit too.
Does anyone recall the review way back in 2005 the FHB conducted?
Dewalt has a nice machine but the Bosch rig has a handtruck built onto the saw.

Depends what you want to use it for, but I prefer the new compact Dewalt for most of my field work.
I used the Ridgid on wheels for a few years, it was great, but heavy. I bought the new Dewalt as soon as it was available locally, and haven't looked back. Anything the Dewalt can't handle I break down first in the shop on my 3hp Powermatic.

i've got the "mini D", it came to almost 400 with tax. i love the saw, i can't tell the difference between that and the "big D".
Just got the Jet portable for $199. Its pretty quiet and is belt driven.Warranty is 5 years! Took awhile to make a zero clearance plate but works good adapting OEM plate. No table but adapted old one and made my own dust chute.
Wish someone made a saw with a small jointer attached.
have you seen the new makita table saw? it's sweet. i've used both the bosch and makita and i prefer the makita's fence to bosch's
I've got both the new Makita and the new Dewalt. The Dewalt is much more "portable" and that's why it's now mine.

If you are going for inexpensive, the Ryobi did very very well for the money.

I'd second Paul's comments. I've got the ryobi bt3100 and its really been exceptional - especially for the money, though its not made anymore. Sears carries a clone but with a stand similar to the bosch's gravity rise.
Just dug out #172.
Best value was Ryobi BTS20 at $200.
Best overall was Bosch 4000-09 at $550.
Can anyone comment on dust control features of these 2?
I just recently purchased the BTS20. Definitely good value for the money. It's not the Bosch, but it's also less than half the money. Cuts seem to be good for a portable saw. It is loud...
The dust collection on the saw is via a shroud that is around most of the blade. The shroud has an approximately 2 inch outlet for a dust bag (not included) or shop vac.
I used the dust bag from my Bosch miter saw on it and it seemed to leave little mess. If you don't use a bag or a vac expect a big mess, as it shoots saw dust out the outlet pretty well...

The Bosch is VERY nice, lots of raves about it in Breaktime. I just bought one from Tylertool at a pretty good discount. They are also available reconditioned from CPOBosch. I suspect they will be even cheaper in the next couple of months with the new 4100 model coming out.

Contact bosch usa and see if they will be attending any tool events in your locale. They're at my lumberyard 1x or 2x a year for the 'bosch tool event' and they'll sell packages at big discounts. I bought my saw with the gravity rise stand and outfeed supports for 459$
I had the dewalt earlier and the fence is better, but the motor wasn't as nice as the bosch, which soft starts and seems to run much more smoothly.
I have the Bosch--it's been used hard for three years with no problems. I got it before the gravityrise stand came out. That would be a nice addition. The outfeed arms are great. I use mine with a shopvac attached, which keeps the dust down pretty well.
My brother has the Rigid and loves it, and he's very picky about tools. I don't think you'd go wrong either way.

This setup has proven great for me. Not the WOW factor of the Bosch gravity stand, but I like the outfeed table better than Bosch's offering.

I have the Big dewalt DW744 and put the Bosch table saw stand, ts2000, on and it works great. I also have both the extensions on it, they don't work as well as real outfeed tables but they help. The down side to this setup is it weighs 110#. You can load it into a pickup easy enough by puting the handle on the tailgate and then lifting the bottom and shoving it in, but if the sites is still a mess it's a pain to move.
I also have the little Dewalt, DW745. It rocks! Takes up almost no room in the truck, I can carry it with one hand, the motor is actualy stronger than the DW744. The only down side is the max rip is 16" and you would have to make a support and an outfeed.
The dewalt fences are the slickest I have ever used, But you realy have to watch to make sure they stay in alinement. I still have a good kickback scar due to the fence shifting in 1/4 of an inch when it got bumped and I did'nt notice it.
I went the Craftsman route from SEARS. Big table with less weight and a regular size miter slot so I can use after market feather boards. The self winding cord saves me 2 hours a year at clean-up time not having to wrap a cord manually every day. Not a lot of Craftsman fans here I know, but give it a look.
What's important is that you match features with your needs. I wrote a list for myself and looked at what was available at the time. The sears saw got more yes check marks than the others.
