Mounting some of DW’s arty tile groups for sales (usually six 6×6 or 8x8s) on a piece of ply with mastic, with about an inch of extra all the way around to attach to a frame; all this to hang on a wall. No grout; tiles are mounted edge-to-edge.
What’s the best permanantly non-warping material? Approximately 18 x 26 X 5-8 – 3/4″” at maximum. Ply might eventually bow a bit; OSB? MDF? MDO? Melamine-faced OSB (both sides)? Baltic-birch ply? 1/4″ Hardi-backer on melamine?
DW really wants to know. I had one piece of OSB from a sample of Dri-Core for the first one; it’s supposed to be a moisture-resistant OSB under the plastic waffle surface.
Help me, Obi-Wan-Kenobi –

I would use the baltic birch plywood.
And get back to work.
One factor: "duplicate" whatever is done on the front on the back so any warping tendencies from the front side will be cancelled out

Wait - tile the back, too?
