I’m a newbie here, so please excuse me if I say/do something dumb. I’ve checked the archives and don’t find info on my question.
We’re building a new home outside of Atlanta Georgia and plan to have a large covered porch on the rear of the house. It is approx. 32′ I 11′. Part of it will be either screened, or enclosed with windows to create a “3 seasons” room. The balance will be open porch with hand rails. We are considering using ceramic tiles on the floor of the enclosed portion and I am concerned about the best type of sub-floor. It will be approx. 9 feet above the ground.
If we use treated lumber, can we add a sub floor and concrete backer board for the tiles? How much movement will we get?
As an alternative, how expensive would it be to install a lightweight concrete floor for the entire porch?
Any ideas, thoughts, or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.
