I searched, but amazingly didn’t find a string on this subject.
I just got a 5″ orbital sander and need discs for it.
Norton has regular and “3X” at 2 1/2 times the price. (I’m familiar with Dos Equis and 4X, but those are different kinds of products entirely)
So what 5″ H&L discs have you found to be the best?
Thanks,

I like the purple, long life, H&L disks that 3M makes. They do seem to outlast all the others and seem to sand efficiently. More money than Norton buy a large margin...but I'm "hooked" on them.
Haven't tried them, but Microplane makes SS discs. More expensive, but it's an interesting concept.

I have a bunch of Mirka discs for a 6". Seems good, but I haven't tried many varieties.
Having seen sandpaper testing this past summer in a R&D lab, be hard to beat the 3M purple paper. BTW, the frecut is still working on these papers even after the color disappears.
What R&D lab? Are the findings published somewhere?
Bruce - I'm a big fan of Klingspor's discs...

I've got multiple grits of 5" & 6" H&L for my palm sanders, and their scraps of "bargain box" paper are the best. This stuff is all fabric-backed, not paper, and seems to last a long time...
I like the Bosch
I like 'Mirka' Box of fifty, under a double saw buck.
