What is the best lighting for painting walls, doors, trim etc. when it is P.M. dark outside. Halogen lights seem to be too bright and have to be placed just right what is best?

David, place your halo 45 degrees to the wall. Preferably at the other end. Work toward it, when you feel the heat place it on the other end at 45. Perfect walls.
Some guys like some daylight, I like it dark. I think halos are just as unforgiving if not more than daylight.

I use the tall, two-light stand halogen, 500 watts each bulb.
I have one of the small single 500 watt halogen but the darn thing just sits on the floor...way too low.
I think the ability to adjust height on the taller one makes it ideal for painting. It throws some serious heat, so be mindful of where you place it.
