I am replacing all the window trim on a beach house. The size of the trim is 1.5 x 3.0 inches. The original trim developed dry rot within 4 years. The builder used hem fir, didn’t back prime it, and didn’t slope the lower rail to allow water to drain. What material should I use to replace the trim? I have thought about western red cedar but am worried about shrinkage (the western red cedar I have seen is not kiln dried). Any help would be appreciated.
