Never got an answer on this one, is it better to nail 1×6 T&G cedar through the point where the chamfer meets the tongue, or to face nail?
I’m nailing 40″ vertical T&G exterior skirt boards around a house into 2×4’s (SS Nails)located at the top center and bottom of the skirt. Nailing at the tongue gives me 3 nails in each board only on the edge at the tongue as opposed to better coverage face nailing which also is visible or would require setting and filling.
For a better hold face nailing, for better appearance blind nailing. Which is the best method that is used in the field?
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
Blind nail through the tongue. You shouldn't need any face nails except in the starting & finishing pieces, but put some in if necessary in certain spots. If it's just a matter of setting & filling some random face nails, no big deal. If there's any trim boards going on the top or bottom, that would be better yet as far as holding power, although a trim board on the bottom would would facilitate some rotting.
