I will be replacing my underslab (copper) branch water distribution system with an overhead PEX homerun system. I’ve read a ton of articles on the subject and reviewed the manufacturer’s stuff. But I’d like some feedback from someone who has actually installed PEX plumbing systems.
Numerous articles including FHB suggest the original PEX A (Engel-method PEX) is superior in strength and uniformity to PEX B or C, with PEX B (silane method) receiving very few endorsements because it is supposedly weaker/more difficult to control uniformity during the manufacturing process. Also PEX A has a much longer in-use track record in Europe.
But come to find out, some of the most popular PEX plumbing tubing out there such as Vanguard Vanex and Zurn PEX are PEX C products. I realize that all 3 are certified by the ASTM for residential plumbing, but if PEX A is superior, I would be willing to pay a few extra bucks for that peace of mind.
Any recommendations or insights?
What is the best (as in most reliable and watertight) fastening method, copper crimp rings, pro-press, or the new compression sleeve system?
Any recommendation on manifolds? I was leaning toward the Vanguard Manablock, seems like a very user friendly system for a DIY homeowner.

I use Kitec II fittings exclusively and have been happy with their performance. Check with your local plumbing supply store.
