Hi folks,
I’m close to being ready to install oak flooring in our addition and we’re pretty sure we want to go with pre-finished oak. My brother-in-law recently installed Bruce flooring that he got from HD and seems pretty happy with it. Is there something better and is it worth the extra money? Thanks in advance…

Roger,
Just my opinion.
A finish on site floor will lay 'flatter' than a prefinished floor after it is sanded. It is also a good idea to apply a 'maintenance coat' every 3 to 5 years, or as the floor begins to show wear. This 'buff and coat' is possible with pre finished flooring. A standard water or solvent based product, however, is not compatable with the factory aluminum oxide coating. The product I use, 'bona kemi' 'pacific strong' is compatable to go over a factory finish. It is however is very expensive, and is a two part system. Most people don't consider the refinish aspects of a factory finish floor.
