better technique for groin framing
we have started making our groin frames from 3/4″ osb and running a slot cutter along the bottom edge of the frame. This makes it easy to trim the drywall to the frame, simply hang drywall on frame and then run rotozip down the slot in the groin for a perfect trim job.

sorry about the picture, the slot in the bottom of the groin isnt visible, but it is there, need to fire the photographer (wannabee)
Cool ! How are you forming the curved steel joists ?
with a radius track, track and stud bender.
I'm not familiar with those terms, can you tell me more?
http://www.radiustrack.com/track_bender.aspCheck out this url, it is a great tool, i have had mine for about 4 years, it cost me a little over 4 grand but has paid for itself many times over.
Another cool picture BB, not to hijack your thread, you find that apprentice you were looking for?
I'd hope so, these would be cool projects to learn early on in a career.

Matt;I still have two college boys that are working part time and that are great help, but would like to find a young man yet that would like to learn the trades. My swampers are both engeneering students and are getting to be short timers with me. They will be looking at nearly six figures right out of school and i cant compete with that.
Good luck on your search, sorry for the somewhat off topic question.
Cool pictures as always. Woods favorite carpenter
Nice work as always. If I understand you correctly, the bearing on the Rotozip fits into the slot and then you get a perfect "valley" line?
Tim
yes that is right tim, it works great, i just routed out about a 3/16" slot with a router before putting the groins up, it was the easiest valley trim ever.
A track bender like this one? http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/tls/550434363.html Tell me what I need to know, I may just email this guy and pick it up.
