Can you use some form of bifold door for a closet that’s 9 to 10 feet wide?

Sure, if ya don't mind 2.5' of door sticking out into the room when open.
you're closet is 9'-10' but do you really need more than a 5' opening? If not then just use 2 sets of 30" bifolds.

I get your point. But I'm looking to open a space in front of a washer, dryer and tub.
I just measured it and it's only 8' across and with a little extra fudge factor, I would like to be able to get 9'. There's no room for any kind of pocket door on either side.
any thoughts?
How about an overhead door? Seriously.

Would it all be open at once? I've done some sliders that were 12'. 4 3/0 panels hung on pocket door hardware with Hafel recessed tracks in the floor. They didn't go into pockets, just bypassed.Johnson makes some heavy duty bifold harware. We did a 7/0 8/0 solid unit. The panels hang like a pocket door, no weight is actually on the floor. Works very smoothly.http://www.tvwsolar.com

Have you thought about sliders rather than folders?
Scott.
10 feet wide, opening in both directions, means a panel is 2.5 feet. That takes up a bit of space, but seems doable. Not sure I've ever seen a 10-foot bifold, but I've seen probably 8-foot before.
(And they open in the middle, not on the ends.)
Also, keep in mind that, about 4" of each panel is buried in the opening, so you only get about 2' 2" projecting beyond.

I did a 10' bi-fold once, not by choice, with 10, 12 inch panels. It was sloppy and floppy but the cheapo customers loved it. I'll bet it didn't last long.
Maybe you could find some very well made & attractive accordion doors. I've seen them with the track on top and bottom for stability and they really didn't look half bad. They take up very little room when open.

Hey now!!....Don't knock it 'till ya hear 'Bella Note' played on either the accordion or concertina.
If you give me an hour or so practice time, I could still probably play Moon River on the thing.

Raincheck on that. I haven't enough time to brush my teeth these days let alone give myself a break and besides, I don't have a squeezebox anymore.
