Anyone know if the bigboxes, Depot or Lowes, have handheld sighting levels for sale in the tool departments? A little David White with no magnification is what I am after, but another brand will do.
I’ll be on the road tomorrow and will need one at my destination, and I left mine at home back in NY.

I think Lowes has one. Little hand held scope with a level vial inside? If so they had one last time I was there.
Yep. That's it. My first try will be a Lowes, not a Depot. Thanks.
I think I have one kicking around here, with more notice I could have sent you mine. I don't think I ever used it. I bought it off the clearance table for $1.
Johnson used to make one.
I think the generic term is "Locke Hand Level".
I bought a Stanley "Pocket Sighting Level" from HD a year or so ago. There are no nimbers on it.
These things are not as accurate as a Wulde transit but better than that HG laser level I keft by the telephone pole on my street corner.

The one I have had for years, and which is at home and a 16 hour drive away, is a David White. Little plastic tube, slit sight on one end, look through it and center the bubble on the horizontal sighting line, voila, there's your level sight.
Great for doing a preliminary house siting, in checking out building lots. You can work solo with a long tape, some stakes, and a sighting pole with hash marks, and come up with a set of figures for drawing a reasonable topo map of a site.
