Was recentaly asked why tubs are 5′ long & it got me thinking. Being 6′ 4″ they are sort of a joke, I can exhale and almost wedge my shoulders in the tub. My sisters house has a cast iron claw foot tub that is a good 6′ long on the inside. Her tub is older than dirt and probably weighs a ton. Are there tubs that a person can buy that are identical to a standard tub but just scaled a little bigger. I am not talking about a spa. I am just curious if I am opening a can of worms by considering a bigger tub. I understand that they take some more water to fill, but I also displace a little more water.

abe, Kohler has 5'-6" as well as 6' non whirlpool tubs. Same goes for Lasco. I would think if you searched other manufacturers, you would find several to choose from. Best of luck.

Far as I know, at least usta know, most manufacturers offered 5.5 and 6 ft tubs. Same as the rest of the line only longer.
That may have fallen out of popularity with the popularity of jacuzzis.

I had no trouble finding a longer tub. I can't remember the brand, perhaps it was Lasco. It was for a house I built in 1999 that I had to move away from.
I went to a large showroom and sat in most of the tubs. For me, being 5'-10", I found that a tub 6" longer than standard fit me well. They had many tubs available in 6" increments of length, beginning at 60" long.
I highly recommend anyone sit in any tub they are considering purchasing. So many tubs, especially fancy whirlpool models, are really not comfortable. Get the wrong size and you need to either scruch up, or keep you muscles tensed to keep from sliding under water. Neither is soothing.
You aren't causing trouble looking for a longer tub so long as the plans are adjusted before construction begins and you account for the extra size.
